A lot of times we go through life, just going through the motions. We just kind of go day by day not realizing where our actions will take us, and then one day BAM! You get a big ol’ slap in the face. That’s kind of what happened to me when I ballooned to a whopping 245 pounds.
Today while I was on the elevator, I had a bit of an epiphany. I felt like the time had come for me to share my story. A little over a year ago I had gone to a seminar to get information on getting Lap Band surgery. What ended up happening was that I didn’t qualify for the discount at work, so I was pretty much forced to go at it alone either that or pay full price. I decided to give diet and exercise one last try.
This was me at probably my heaviest, it’s funny how you don’t really notice all the weight you gain, that is until you see the pictures and then you go into complete shock. It’s like your mind plays tricks on you. I finally decided on December 31, 2011 that I was going to change my life and lose weight, once and for all! So I researched and decided to go on the South Beach Diet. I’m not going to lie to you, at first it was rough! The first two weeks of the South Beach Diet are completely carb free and you get rid of sugar as well. I was one cranky witch, to put it nicely.
But soon it got easier and easier and before I knew it, I had lost 50 pounds!
This was me on my birthday, I really like this picture. It’s been quite a while since I’ve been under 200 pounds, it’s also been a minute since I’ve worn a tank top. I still have a long journey ahead of me and quite a bit of weight to lose, but trust me when I say that if I can do it anyone can.
I can’t sit here and tell you that it was easy, but I can tell you that it’s worth the effort. I get asked all the time how I lost the weight, people think I have unlocked some crazy secret to the weight loss world, but no it’s really just diet and exercise. I didn’t get injections or take fat burning supplements, it was really all me. Unfortunately, there are no gimmicks to weight loss, you just have to eat right and exercise. The thing that really pushed me toward weight loss, was that I new I wanted to start a family this year, and I wanted to make sure I was healthy. It’s incredible how my blood pressure went back to normal, my asthma cleared up, even my allergies got better.
